Access Centre

At KJS, students whose special educational needs require individualized teaching and learning adjustments are provided for within the Access Centre. In the Access Centre students enjoy learning key fundamental academic, social and life skills in a small group setting. Students are able to learn at their own pace in a structured and focused environment.

As we are an inclusive school, students in the Access Centre are not in a separate class from their same age peers. Instead they are included as part of the mainstream register. During a normal day, an Access student will spend time unsupported in his/her class, will have Educational Assistant support in the class, and be withdrawn for small group lessons in the Access Centre. Each student is included their regular classroom as much as possible. Entry into this special education provision is through a central process called the Admissions and Review Panel, not through KJS itself. An application process is followed for potential students that may benefit from the program.
